This private 4-bedroom Mountain Chalet might be our coziest rental, with a living room, full kitchen, deck with a picnic table, indoor fireplace and outdoor fire pit. The home is accessible by a set of stairs.
We are a traditional family-run inn and resort, gratefully serving our guests since 1934. This charming mountain chalet, Opa’s, was built by my great-grandfather, whose many paintings are on display in the home.
A stay here feels like journeying back in time, and across the ocean to the Black Forest of Germany. This chalet is of a different time, when people lived closer to the earth. Come revel in the grounding energy of the place, while enjoying the many comforts of modern life.
On the first floor are 2 bedrooms with one queen bed each, the living room, kitchen and a shared bathroom. Guests will access the second story rooms up another set of stairs and around a stylish lofted open hallway. There are two bedrooms on the second floor, each with a king bed, a queen pullout and a private bathroom.
Each of the bedrooms has air conditioning in the summertime and heating in the chillier times of year. The indoor fireplace is off limits from May-September, but in the winter months it is available and wood is provided.

As our guest, you will gain shared access to our grounds, to explore and play to your delight: hiking on the miles of private trails in the wild forests on the slopes of Panther Mountain, lounging in an old apple orchard, taking a dip in the flowing water of the Esopus, or swimming laps in the pool. Roast s’mores, cook a meal, or meet some strangers at one of our shared outdoor fire pits scattered around the land. (You’ll also have a private one along with this rental).
Our grounds feature a tennis court, ponds, meadows, volleyball, a tavern and old-timey bowling alley, all within walking distance of the Chalet.
I or another staff member will be either on the land or in the area during your stay. You can reach me by cell phone, email or Airbnb message.
We are in a truly rural area. Our most numerous neighbors are the trees and wild ones, please spend some time with them while you're here.
Other rentals and staff housing share on this same land, yet are sufficiently spaced out.
Other human neighbors are a bit further away.
